Hedge fund manager Dan Loeb was condemned by top New York officials Friday after the New York Times reported he said the state senate’s Democratic leader had done "more damage to people of color than anyone who has ever donned a hood" because of her support for the teachers’ union.

His comments about Andrea Stewart-Cousins, who is black, were made in a Facebook post that he deleted and apologized for, the Times reported.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife, Chirlane McCray, both demanded that Loeb resign as chairman of Success Academy, a network of charter schools. The Third Point LLC founder has been a donor to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, whose spokesman told the Times that Loeb’s comments were "entirely inappropriate."
